“The earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of God as the waters cover the sea” (Habakkuk 2:14)
In a number of discussions recently I have been reminded of just how important it is for us as the people of God to have a clear view of two things. Very simply they are as follows; remembering who God is and remembering what God’s purpose is for all the nations.
So, first of all, why does it matter who God is? When we forget who God is everything disintegrates very quickly. He is perfectly pure, fully righteous, flawlessly just and altogether holy. These are only some of the various attributes and characteristics which we see God revealing to his people and to us through his word. What is your vision of God? How quickly do you limit him in his size and capacity by imposing human limitations on him? All too often we fall into this trap forgetting that this is the God who created the universe and knows where the birds of the air have their nesting place. As we pray and continue in the work of bringing East Asia’s peoples before the Lord let us be people who remember the scope and magnitude of the God who lets us come to him as our good and gracious father.
The second thing we need to have a clear view of is the purposes of God for the nations of this world. Habakkuk is faced with a very challenging situation and challenges God about the behaviour of his people and the nations around him. In response to this God reminds the prophet that he has a cosmic purpose which he is bringing to a climax, and it is this; the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of God.
What is your vision of God’s purposes? Stand back in awe of what it is that God is declaring to Habakkuk. The whole earth is to be filled in abundance with the knowledge of God in his glory. That is the end goal of everything. I want to encourage us in this again; don’t lose sight of this great truth as we serve the Lord for the good of East Asia’s peoples. He has come in Christ and has revealed to us his glory. He has been raised from the death and vindicated as the king of the universe. Now, through the proclamation of the gospel that glory is extending to more and more people across the face of the earth. Be encouraged, God’s mission is moving forward and his kingdom is extending through the prayers of his people.
In turning to prayer remember once again the magnitude of God and his redeeming love coupled with his great glory which will cover the earth as the waters cover the sea.
Blessings in Christ,
