The normal way of life: OMF Christmas 2017

“The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God stands forever”

(Isaiah 40:8)

Transiency is the normal way of life, yet nearly everything else around us and within us tries to pretend that this is not true. We want there to be something which lasts, something that in the end will not be tainted, tarnished or tired. And that is what we see at the beginning of this wonderful section of Isaiah; there is something which lasts. Continue reading

When Grace Gets Awkward: OMF October 2017

“Your faith has saved you; go in peace” (Luke 7:50)

As a society the UK is one of the most awkward in the world. Let me explain. We have all been there; someone goes to shake your hand and the other aims with the hug. This is when things get awkward and that is the type of awkwardness I’m talking about. Part of our human experience is being awkward people living out life with other awkward people. Relationships across cultures: OMF September 2017

So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them (Gen 1:27)

No doubt we were deeply saddened, even angry at the events that took place in Charlottesville in the US. A Greater Motive: August 2017

Do nothing from rivalry or conceit but in humility count others more significant than yourselves (Philippians 2:3)

Last month we looked at reminding ourselves of our purpose in an ever changing world, focusing on making much of Jesus and pointing others to him. I’m sure that neither of these things we would disagree with. That being said, sometimes the way these truths are communicated can cause hindrance to those who are watching the believer’s life or listening to the believer’s words. Clearly this is something which Paul understood. Continue reading

Our Lives Refrain: OMF July/Aug 2017

“For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain” (Philippians 1:21)

Across the world there have been many people over the years who have given themselves for what they believe in. These last few months have seen many events in our own nation vividly illustrating this point. Take the attacks in Manchester & London or the rallying cry of either the political left or right as good examples. With tensions rising and global financial markets increasingly uncertain it seems unavoidable that we, as God’s redeemed people, remember our purpose. Continue reading
